We strive to set ourselves apart from our competition, and certainly from those called "vanity presses". There are a number of red flags and negative associations with them. Here, we'll go over a few and how Little House Publishing is different!
What is a Vanity Press?
First, let's agree on a common understanding and lay out in clear terms what a Vanity Press is.

A vanity press is a type of publishing company that charges authors to publish their books, often without providing substantial editorial, marketing, or distribution support. Unlike traditional publishers, where the publisher invests in the author’s work and covers costs like editing, design, and marketing, vanity presses require the author to pay for these services upfront.

Some of the chiefs complaints with vanity presses are that they won't hesitate to charge you hefty fees up front just to get into their program in which they typically take some amount of your IP rights, give you shoddy support through the process, and leave you high and dry post launch. Not to mention what they'll do to your royalties. In the worst cases, they'll try to convince you to sign away all your royalties.

They may tell you they'll distribute wide, but if you're not very careful, that might just mean on their specific website to them; not on Amazon or through Ingram distribution channels. Even still, they may claim that they are a traditional publisher simply due to their label and "legitimate business".
Now, of course, they won't tell you any of this up front. Not only will they promise you the moon and a few stars go go with, they'll tell you you're getting a good deal as long as you give them a couple thousand bucks to start and sign your royalties and rights over to them in perpetuity.

Vanity presses thrive on volume over quantity. It's why there is very often no real vetting process. They'll take anyone's money as long as they'll sign the contract. While not all of these companies are as bad as the last one, and there may even be some good ones out there, this is what people tend to associate with them.
So, what makes us different?

Any initial investment from our partnered authors is completely voluntary. Our bread and butter are royalty shares with authors and stand alone service offerings. The way we get paid only comes when you're successful, short and long term. Not only will you get the lions share of the royalties, you'll retain all intellectual property rights for derivitive works, other formats, and so on. Oh, and our cut of the royalties gets smaller as time goes on.

You were selective with who you published with. We're selective with who we partner with. We're not just in it for the money, we're in it for the quality work of bringing your dreams to life. While we have our preferred publishing partners like Amazon KDP, Draft 2 Digital, and Ingram Spark, we'll work with you to make sure your work is on all the channels you want it to be on in any format.
